Cultures Unite

Imagine the beauty and wonder of being born and raised as both a strong and creative Latina and Indian-American women

When your parents are from different cultures, only the best things can happen. One from Latin America and the other from India. We like to call it “LAT-INDIA”. Introducing our dynamic founder, Danikkah Josan! But first, how about a little background

Forbes article titled "How A New York City Newsstand Turned Into An Indian Taco Restaurant — And It’s Expanding" by Gary Stern. The image includes photos of a taco restaurant's exterior with a sign that reads "Taco Mahal" and interior shots showing a smiling woman behind the counter and seating area.

When Mr. Josan opened his first Indian restaurant on the northwest corner of Bleecker and Seventh Avenue in the West Village over 30 years ago, he never imagined it would one day be reborn through the vision of his bold and creative daughter, Danikkah.

In the 1980s, he moved across the street to open a magazine shop that thrived for years. But as the city evolved, Mr. Josan sensed it was time to pass the torch. What followed was nothing short of a renaissance—a true “Restaurant Reincarnation.”

Danikkah embraced the opportunity with passion, transforming the beloved corner space into a vibrant, stylish eatery. Tapping into her New York City roots, she partnered with restaurateur and creative director Eddie Larios, who shares her passion for innovative cuisine with flair. Together, they reimagined the West Village space through a thoughtful rebrand and redesign.

With her Indian culinary heritage and Latina soul, Danikkah’s vision was never about choosing one culture over the other—it was about blending them. The result? A seamless fusion of two traditions that together taste like nowhere else in the city.

Inspired by the Taj Mahal—built as a timeless symbol of love—Taco Mahal was born to celebrate another universal love: the love of tacos. Here, the fragrant spices of India meet the bold, fresh flavors of Latin America, creating a menu that’s as soulful as it is surprising.
